Developers scramble to buy prominent Nottingham sites

A new release of former council commercial property in Nottingham city centre sparks a lot of interest

Top hotels and blue-chip companies are racing to obtain sites in Nottingham.

Six city-centre plots will be available when Nottingham City Council moves to a new site near the train station.

The council has been surprised by the level of interest in the sites, which include the Guildhall, Lawrence House on Talbot Street, and Severns House, Weekday Cross.

It is considering up to 20 serious bids from developers, agents and companies.

Council officers expect to have completed all of the sales within two years.

Sites manager Geoff Hibbert said: "We have a lot of interest in these sites. People want to reinvest. Confidence is re-emerging and Nottingham is on the radar for investors and companies."

The interest comes as the city launches its Invest in Nottingham campaign.

Supported by the Evening Post, it will promote Nottingham to investors at home and abroad.

Later this month, a delegation will attend the world's largest property fair in Cannes, France. Invest in Nottingham events will be held in London in April and here in May.

Mark Hobson, managing director of Nottingham's Maber Architects, said: "If the city can generate interest and investment it brings stability and generates jobs and wealth which should be redistributed to the benefit of everyone."
